Duncan Young

Duncan Young is an experienced communications professional currently serving as the Director of External Communications and Interim Global Head of External Communications at abrdn since February 2022, overseeing media, corporate communications, and events teams. Prior to this, Duncan held the position of Director of Communications at NatWest Group from September 2016 to March 2021, where counsel was provided to the Board and CEO on reputation management while leading a diverse communications team. Previous roles include Head of Employee and Leadership Communications at the Royal Bank of Scotland and Assistant Editor at BBC News. Duncan’s career also includes advising Scottish Cabinet Ministers on media strategies as a Senior Media Manager and serving as a Parliamentary Producer at Scottish Television. Educational qualifications include a MA(Hons) in Politics from The University of Edinburgh, and ongoing studies in Business Economics at the University of Oxford and Executive Education on Sustainability at Harvard Business School.
