Patrick Utz is the CEO and Co-Founder of Abstract. Prior to this, they worked as a software perception engineer intern at Aurora Flight Sciences Corporation from May 2019 to August 2019. There, they designed and implemented a Python and C++ interface for Microsoft’s AirSim to generate synthetic “real world” flight images for neural net training with custom architecture. Patrick also created an algorithm to calculate velocity needed to control aircraft in AirSim using three dimensional NED coordinates and time stamps along with an image processing algorithm using OpenCV for object detection.
Before their work at Aurora Flight Sciences Corporation, Patrick Utz was at Abstract from June 2018 to July 2019 as a computer vision research intern. There, they used computer vision as an alternative to radar and LiDAR to aid autonomous automobiles in detecting traffic cones. Patrick implemented techniques such as Single Shot Detection and general convolutional neural nets with the TensorFlow Python library and Keras API. Patrick also prepared data sets by hand and used mean average precision (mAP) to assess accuracy.
Lastly, Patrick Utz was an infotainment systems engineering intern at Honda R&D Americas, Inc. from May 2018 to August 2018.
Patrick Utz has a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Loyola Marymount University with an emphasis in Electrical Engineering - Computer Engineering. Patrick also has a Summer Venture in Management Program from Harvard Business School.
Some individuals on their team include Matthew Chang - CPO & Co-Founder, Mohammed Hayat - CTO & Co-Founder, and Michelle Steele - Business Development Associate.
