Before their industry career, Tom worked as a researcher at the Department of Computer Science at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, where they focused on decentralised and distributed systems.

Tom De Wolf earned a PhD in Engineering and Computer Science from KU Leuven from 2002 to 2007. Prior to that, they completed a Master's degree in Computer Science at KU Leuven from 1998 to 2002. Additionally, they obtained a secondary education degree in Algemeen Secundair Onderwijs with a focus on Wetenschappen - Wiskunde from sint aloysius college geel from 1992 to 1998. In 2019 to 2020, Tom De Wolf attended SyntraPXL to study Stripauteur - Comic book artist, although no specific degree was mentioned.
