Aconchego House is a safe, inclusive and community-led space for the LGBTQIA+ community and other marginalised groups. It is a place of belonging, trust and acceptance, where people are welcomed as they are and supported with dignity and care.

Created in response to ongoing discrimination, isolation and structural inequality, Aconchego House operates as a Social Hub Project, offering a multifunctional environment where community life, creativity and activism intersect. Through arts, coworking, events and collective initiatives, we foster coexistence, expression and solidarity.

A central pillar of our work is SOMA (Portuguese for "Saúde, Orgulho, Mentoria, e Acolhimento”), the LGBTQIA+ Health Support Programme for Health, Pride, Mentorship and Care. SOMA addresses barriers to healthcare faced by LGBTQIA+ people, particularly trans individuals, by providing accessible, specialised and continuous physical, mental and emotional health support, delivered with sensitivity and professional follow-up.

Although still being finalised for launch, we also run Lex Queer, the Legal Assistance and Protection Programme, ensuring access to justice through legal guidance, advocacy and representation. Lex Queer supports cases related to discrimination, human rights protection, asylum processes and other legal needs.

Education, mentorship and access to information are fundamental to our mission. Together with volunteers, professionals and aligned partners, we work to promote autonomy, resilience and social equity.

More than an organisation, Aconchego House is a movement for care, dignity and progress. A house built by the community, for the community, echoing the feeling of the home we all deserve and need. Rooted in the Portuguese word “aconchego”, a word that holds warmth, closeness and belonging, this house is also yours.
