Laurent Hoffmann

Laurent Hoffmann has over 28 years of experience in the medical device industry. Laurent began their career in 1993 as a Materials Engineer at Domilens, where they developed multiple intraocular lens designs and associated devices, as well as managed new materials projects. From 1999 to 2003, they worked at Bausch + Lomb, first as Manager of RD&E and then as Manager of R&D. In 2003, they moved to STAAR Surgical as Manager of R&D. In 2004, they joined Abbott as Program Engineer and Manager of R&D. From 2017 to 2021, they worked at Johnson & Johnson Surgical Vision, first as Manager of R&D, where they were the technical leader of intraocular lens projects and manager of the IOL development lab, and then as Sr. Manager of R&D, where they managed inserter system research and development for all intraocular lens models in the Johnson & Johnson Surgical Vision offering, as well as managed R&D teams providing mechanical design engineering for phacoemulsification equipment and laser systems for refractive surgery. Laurent currently works at AcuFocus, Inc. as Principal Engineer & Project Manager, where they provide lens design support (mechanical platform and optical design) of the small aperture IC-8 IOL, as well as lens design and project management of new small aperture IOL solutions to treat presbyopia and highly aberrated eyes.

Laurent Hoffmann received a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Universit\u00e9 de Technologie de Compi\u00e8gne (UTC) between 1988 and 1990. Laurent then went on to obtain a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Houston between 1991 and 1993. In 2011 and 2012, Laurent Hoffmann completed an Engineering Certificate in Optical Engineering from UC Irvine.
