Merete Smith

Merete Smith has extensive experience in the legal field, serving as the Secretary General of Advokatforeningen since 2003. Previously, Merete held the position of Chair at Nationaltheatret from June 2017 to June 2021 and worked as a Deputy Judge at Borgarting lagmannsrett for a brief period in 2003. Merete's career at the Ministry of Justice in Norway spanned nearly a decade from 1993 to 2002, where duties included positions as Bureau Chief and Department Director. Earlier professional roles include serving as a Legal Assistant at Asker og Bærum herredsrett and as a Trainee Lawyer at Wikborg, Rein & Co. Merete holds an LL.M in International Law from Georgetown University Law Center and a Cand. jur. degree from the University of Oslo, complemented by military training at Forsvarets høgskole.
