Alex Watson

Alex Watson currently serves as Chairman of the Board and Non Executive Director at ADvTECH Group, with a focus on independent governance. Since July 2021, Alex has been a Board Observer and Non Executive Director at Petra Diamonds, as well as Chairman of the Board at Coronation Fund Managers. Alex also holds a Director position at WWF South Africa, is Chairperson of the Financial Reporting Investigations Panel (FRIP), and has been a Professor Emeritus and Richard Sonnenberg Professor of Accounting at the University of Cape Town since 2013. Additional experience includes serving as an Independent Director at Steinhoff International until June 2024 and as a Director at the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) from 2015 to December 2019. Alex Watson earned a B Com Hons degree from the University of Cape Town and attended Herschel Girls from 1969 to 1973.
