Mark Brannan has a diverse work experience that spans over several industries. Mark began their career in 1987 as a Land Surveyor at Longdin & Browning (Surveys) Ltd. From 1990 to 1996, they operated as a Freelance Hydrographic Surveyor. Mark then served as a Navigation Analyst at Western Geophysical from 1996 to 1997. Following this, they had another stint as a Freelance Hydrographic Surveyor from 1997 to 1999 while being self-employed. Mark joined AEB (International) Limited in 2000 as a Project Manager and held various roles within the company, including Senior Business Systems Analyst and General Manager. In 2011, they transitioned to AEB, serving as the International Business Development Director for Digital Customs Broker Services.

Mark Brannan has a strong education background in various fields. In 1983, they pursued a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Geography from North Staffordshire Polytechnic, which they completed in 1986. Following this, from 1986 to 1987, they obtained a Post-graduate Diploma in Surveying from UCL. Later, in 1999, they undertook a Master of Science (Distinction) in Computer Science from the University of Birmingham, which took him a year to complete.
