Rob Thomas

Senior Sustainability Planner

Rob Thomas is a Senior Sustainability Planner at AECOM since November 2021, with extensive experience in energy and environmental leadership. From July 2010 to October 2021, Rob served as the Chief of Energy and Environment for the City of Newark, overseeing the development and implementation of energy policies aimed at enhancing efficiency and resilience. Prior roles in Newark included Deputy Energy Coordinator and Energy Project Manager, focusing on emergency energy operations and grant funding management. Rob began a career in sustainability as a Sustainability Intern, contributing to greenhouse gas reduction and energy savings initiatives. Earlier experience includes serving as a Student Helpdesk Technician at NJIT and a Community Crew Leader with the Student Conservation Association. Rob holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology from New Jersey Institute of Technology and is currently enrolled in the Environmental Leadership Program.
