Dr. Niraj Lal has established a multifaceted career in renewable energy research, broadcasting, and human rights activism. Graduating as a Gates Scholar with a PhD in Physics from the University of Cambridge in 2012, they served as a Renewable Energy Lecturer at ANU before becoming a Principal at AEMO and a Visiting Fellow at ANU. Dr. Lal is recognized for their work in science communication, including presenting documentaries for ABC, and has authored a children’s book on gravity. They have received various accolades, including the 2021 Australia Museum’s Celestino Eureka Prize for Promoting Understanding of Science and the 2022 Royal Societies of Australia and New Zealand Piasecki Prize for Outstanding Writing on Social Change.
