Simon Tremeer

Lead Manufacturing Quality Engineer at aescape

Simon Tremeer has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Simon began their career as an Industrial Designer at VOLKSWAGEN OF SOUTH AFRICA (PTY) LTD during their student placement in 2001. Simon was involved in updating the VW Citi Golf A1 model.

After completing their studies, Tremeer joined Electrolux in 2002 as an Industrial Designer. Simon contributed to the testing and improvement of vacuum cleaners and worked on graphic design projects for manuals and logos.

In 2003, Tremeer joined Plusminuszero Design as an Industrial Designer. Simon worked on various projects, including concept generation, 3D CAD modeling, and graphic design. Simon also gained experience in model making and product testing.

From 2005 to 2007, Tremeer worked at Freeplay Energy Ltd, initially as an Industrial Designer and later as the International Operations Manager. Simon designed renewable energy consumer electronic products and oversaw their production at multiple factories. Simon also audited manufacturers and received the CES Innovations award in 2007.

Tremeer co-founded Nuru Energy in 2008 and served as the Manufacturing & Operations Director. Simon collaborated with a multidisciplinary team to design and manufacture low-cost renewable energy products for rural markets. Simon also developed business relationships with manufacturers and suppliers to ensure compliance and product quality.

In 2018, Tremeer joined BioLite as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer. Simon led various projects, including NPI, quality control, sourcing, and product compliance for outdoor retail and emerging market products. Simon was responsible for developing the Asian supply chain and maintaining key relationships. In 2021, they were promoted to Associate Director of Manufacturing and managed remote teams in the UK, China, and the US.

Currently, Tremeer works at Aescape as the Lead Manufacturing Quality Engineer, starting in 2023.

Simon Tremeer earned a Diploma in Industrial and Product Design from Cape Peninsula University of Technology, which they completed from 1993 to 1995. Simon later pursued a Bachelor of Technology degree in the same field at Cape Peninsula University of Technology in 2001.
