Reg Rea has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. Reg started their career as a junior reporter at the Belfast Telegraph in 1977 and worked in various reporting and editing roles. From 1986-1988, they served as the Industry Correspondent and the editor of the Business Telegraph. In 1988, they joined the BBC as a Business Correspondent, producing video reports on business and innovation. Reg worked there until 1999, specializing in economics, industry, social policy, and science and technology. In 2000, they became self-employed as an Editor and PR Consultant, managing a start-up company and working as a communication consultant and editor. From 2006-2007, they worked for the European Commission as a Press Officer, organizing events, press conferences, and interviews. From 2007-2012, they worked as an Online Editor and Press Officer at OHIM | EU Trademarks and Designs | OAMI | HABM. In 2012, they returned to self-employment as an Editor. Reg then joined EUIPO in 2013 as a Spokesperson and worked there until 2021. In 2021, they joined Betterworld.Solutions as an Environmental Journalist and AESSEAL as the Head of Communications.

Reg Rea obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Philosophy, History, and Journalism from The Open University, where they studied from 1980 to 1987. After that, they pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Applied Economics at Ulster University from 1989 to 1993. Before attending university, Reg Rea completed their secondary education at Newry High School from 1970 to 1976. Additionally, they obtained the NCTJ National Proficiency Certificate in Journalism from the National Council for the Training of Journalists in September 1979.
