Change is changing! Magical technologies have become quotidian, reconfiguring the world and disarming us from their perilous effects. Indeed, while debates rage on about the ethics of new and emerging technology, and law and policy proposals are framed to regulate their use, these endeavours largely miss the foundational challenges. Inherited presumptions no longer hold, yet research and policy plough onwards blinkered from these seismic changes, yielding knowledge and advice that is increasingly disconnected to the realities we actually experience. Æther pushes us to confront the hard fact that many of our guiding frameworks and principles have become obsolete, and drives us to propose novel responses to contemporary challenges. 

Æther adopts a problem-finding approach. We encourage bold explorations into the potential problem-space with the aim of identifying and articulating the core issues that are raised or revealed by new technologies on law, regulation, and governance. Our aim is to provide a forum for discussing what the salient and severe questions actually might be, and to build a community around such explorations. We will provide space for whacky, weird, and wonderful work that does not, can not, and should not, fit into disciplinary siloes and journals.

We are student- and alumni-run, and Faculty-advised. Despite being anchored at the Artificial Intelligence and Legal Disruption Research Group at the Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen, we editors are geographically, culturally, intellectually diverse, and we welcome all manner of submissions regardless of discipline, approach, format, or style. We have only three requirements for submissions: playfulness, originality, and insight.
