How did the Taliban takeover in 2021 change the opportunity structures for protest movements in Afghanistan? What strategies did protest movements use in areas the rebels had already controlled before 2021? How did they differ from the protest movements in areas previously controlled by the government?

The research project "Protest Movements in Transitional Phases from Insurgency to the Consolidation of Successful Rebels: The AFPRO Dataset" aims to answer these questions by creating a dataset on protest activities taking place in Afghanistan between 2016 and 2026.
