Joseph Asunka

Joseph A. currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer at Afrobarometer since April 2021, focusing on citizen voice, social justice, and inclusion. Prior to this role, Joseph A. worked as a Program Officer at The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation from January 2016 to March 2021, managing grants aimed at enhancing accountability between citizens and governments in developing countries. Joseph A. was also a Lecturer at UCLA from September 2009 to August 2015, teaching courses in data analysis, research methods, African politics, and political economy of development. Earlier experience includes serving as a Teaching Fellow and PhD Candidate at the Center for Democratic Development in Ghana from June 2004 to August 2008. Joseph A. holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Political Science from UCLA, earned between 2008 and 2014, and a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Economics from the University of Ghana, completed in 2004.

Afrobarometer

Afrobarometer is a pan-African, non-partisan research network that conducts public attitude surveys on democracy, governance, economic conditions, and related issues in more than 35 countries in Africa. It is a network of researchers who do scientific citizen-attitude surveys aimed at ensuring that people's views inform the decisions of policy-makers, academics, activists and others. The project was launched in 1999 by three African professors, and now covers 35 countries. The network is managed by the Center for Democratic Development in Ghana, the Institute for Development studies at the University of Nairobi, Institute for Justice and Reconciliation.
