John Lustig

John Lustig is the Director at the Illinois State Museum in Lockport, a position they have held since 2012. They specialize in museum administration, public art policy, advocacy, and asset management. Previously, John served as the Curator for the University Visual Collections and Director of the Permanent Art Collection at Indiana State University from 2001 to 2010, managing extensive fine art holdings and organizing exhibitions. They co-founded and curated the Chicago Southland Arts Incubator & Union Street Gallery from 1995 to 2005, and worked as the Public Art Manager for the City of Lancaster, Pennsylvania from 2011 to 2012. In addition, John is the President of Local 2794 for AFSCME Council 31, leading negotiations and advocating for employees across multiple agencies in Illinois. They earned an MFA in painting from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, and a degree in art history-studio from Columbia College Chicago.
