Desla Mancilla

Desla Mancilla has extensive work experience in health data interoperability, health IT, and academic affairs. Desla has been a Manager of Health Data Interoperability at Blue Cross Blue Shield Association since June 2021 and previously served as a Business Lead in Health IT from May 2019 to June 2021. Prior to that, they held the position of Vice President of AHIMA Academic Affairs since March 2017. Desla also worked as the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Certification at AHIMA from August 2012.

Desla Mancilla has also worked at Resurrection University as the Co-Director of HIIM and as an Epic Certified ClinDoc & CPOE Principal Trainer from May 2009 to May 2012. Desla has been involved with AHIMA since 1983, serving as a member until 2010. Additionally, they worked as an HIM Program Faculty at Texas State University from September 2004 to May 2009.

Earlier in their career, Desla Mancilla was the Regional Director of Information Protection Services at the Community Foundation of Northwest Indiana from 1998 to 2004. Desla also held the role of Past President at IHIMA from 1989 to 1995. In addition, they worked as an Adjunct Faculty at Indiana University Northwest from 1988 to 1990.

Desla Mancilla has an extensive education history in the field of healthcare and public administration. Desla started their educational journey at the University of Kentucky from 1976 to 1978, where they pursued general studies without obtaining a degree. Later, in 1990, they attended The College of St. Scholastica and completed their degree in Health Information Management (HIM) in 1994.

Desla continued their education at Indiana University Northwest from 1998 to 2001, earning a Master's in Public Administration (MPA) with a focus on Health Services. Additionally, they pursued further specialization in Health Information Technology (HIT) at Indiana University Northwest, although the specific dates and completion status for this program are unknown.

In 2005, Desla enrolled at the University of Phoenix, where they dedicated herself to studying Healthcare Administration. Desla successfully completed their Doctorate in Healthcare Administration (DHA) in 2010.
