The Observatory is a knowledge platform that monitors AI in media, curates research, offers expert insights, and connects stakeholders with relevant experts. Its goal is to support responsible AI use in the media sector and contribute to discussions on its societal, economic, and industry impact.

The Observatory was originally part of the Horizon2020 AI4Media project, 
The project developed a Center of Excellence engaging a wide network of researchers across Europe and beyond, focusing on delivering the next generation of core AI advances and training to serve the Media sector, while ensuring that the European values of ethical and trustworthy AI are embedded in future AI deployments.

The AI4Media project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 951911
