Deborah A. Pires has extensive work experience in various legal and legislative roles. Deborah A. started their career in 1991 as a Paralegal/Secretary in the Judiciary Committee at the Rhode Island State House. In this role, they conducted legal research and communicated with legislators and attorneys regarding legislative impact and constituent concerns. Deborah A. was later promoted to serve as a paralegal in the Senate Judicial Committee.
In 1994, Deborah joined Martiesian & Associates as a Legislative Administrator/Paralegal. Here, they assisted an attorney with legislative consultant work and general law practice. Their responsibilities included drafting position papers, litigation/administrative documents, and alerts, as well as conducting legal and legislative research.
Deborah joined AIPSO in 1998 as a Sr. Legal Analyst/Peer Review Administrator. Deborah A. initially started as a data analyst but was later recruited by the General Counsel for a senior legal analyst position. Their role expanded to include additional responsibilities such as analyzing evidence, preparing hearing notices, questioning witnesses, and drafting memoranda for reporting to Governing Committees. Deborah A. was also promoted to the role of Peer Review Administrator. In this role, they facilitated a national initiative for records retention and destruction procedures and handled other compliance-related matters.
Throughout their career, Deborah has demonstrated their skills in legal research, drafting legal documents, communication, and administration.
Deborah A. Pires attended Providence College, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Liberal Studies in 1997. Before that, they completed an Associate of Science (A.S.) degree in Paralegal Studies at Providence College in 1994. In addition to their degrees, Deborah also holds certifications as an Associate in Insurance Services from AICPCU, Insurance Institute of America, and as a PACE Registered Paralegal from the National Federation of Paralegal Associations, Inc.
