Senior Mechanical Engineer at Airbus US Space & Defense

Robert Cunningham has over 17 years of experience in various mechanical engineering roles. Starting in 2003, they worked as a Mechanical Engineer at DYMO where they solved banding issues in thermal printers and redesigned a high production printer. From 2005 to 2006, they served as a Mechanical Engineer at Lockheed Martin, designing and analyzing high-temperature space nuclear reactors. Robert then joined Sikorsky Aircraft from 2006 to 2008, optimizing rotor components for the X2 helicopter and developing bearing design optimization methods. At FuelCell Energy from 2008 to 2010, Robert led projects involving composite vessel development and thermal analysis for high-temperature power-plant heat exchangers. Robert also served as Scoutmaster at the Boy Scouts of America from 2006 to 2010, responsible for youth advancement and leadership training. From 2010 to 2012, they worked as a Prototype Turbine Test Manager at FloDesign Wind Turbine, overseeing the design, testing, and investigation of wind turbines. Robert then joined Euro-Pro as a Senior Mechanical Engineer in 2012, involved in the design and development of high-volume consumer appliances. From 2012 to 2019, Robert worked at D&K Engineering as a Senior Mechanical Engineer, specializing in medical device development and manufacturing. Their responsibilities included concept design, regulatory compliance, and utilizing various engineering techniques. Most recently, they have been working at Airbus U.S. Space & Defense, Inc. as a Senior Mechanical Engineer since March 2021, focusing on spacecraft structural and mechanism design and analysis for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. Overall, Robert has gained extensive experience in mechanical engineering across various industries.

Robert Cunningham earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Brigham Young University, which they completed in 2003. Following that, they pursued a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University, which they completed in 2005. In terms of additional certifications, they obtained an OSHA 10 certification from OSHA in February 2011.
