Thomas K. has over 20 years of work experience in the software engineering field. Thomas began their career in 2000 as a Freelance Software Engineer and Software Engineer at E. Moritz GmbH, where they ported the DOS-based Don Gil Point of Sale application to Linux, designed and implemented the network data management for the Don Gil Point of Sale application, and built and maintained the network infrastructure for the public library in Baden. In 2002 and 2003, they worked as a Software Engineering Intern at Siemens, porting a H. 323 VoIP media gateway running on VxWorks to Linux using the ACE C++ Framework and Boost C++ libraries, and designing and implementing a software interface to the Megaco/H. 248 Media Gateway Control Protocol stack in C++ and Erlang/OTP. In 2004, they worked as a Freelance Software Engineer at Ho.bit Information Technology Ltd., designing and implementing a secure distributed license validation system based on Java, XML-RPC, X. 509 public key infrastructure, EJBCA, JBoss, and OpenLDAP. In 2007, they worked as a Research Intern at DERI: Digital Enterprise Research Institute, researching and implementing a rule-based RDF(S) triplestore GiaBATA using the Datalog engine DLVDB, PostgreSQL, and DLVHEX, and researching and implementing a combination of XQuery and SPARQL: XSPARQL, which is built on the XQilla XQuery engine and the Jena Semantic Web Framework. From 2008 to 2015, they worked as a University and Research Assistant at Vienna University of Technology, where they were the work package coordinator for Net2, responsible for Net2 and MyITS projects at Vienna University of Technology, and teaching and administrating university courses in Artificial Intelligence, Declarative Problem Solving, Knowledge Based Systems, and Logic Programming. In 2019, they worked as a Senior Software Developer, Recommender Engine at Guestlogix. Since 2020, they have been employed as a Senior Site Reliability Engineer at Aiven and a Senior Data Engineer at Validere.
Thomas K. received their PhD (Dr. techn.) in Computer Science from Technische Universität Wien in 2018. Thomas also holds a MSc (Dipl.-Ing.) in Computational Intelligence from the same university, which they obtained in 2007. In 2005, they received a BSc (Bakk. techn.) in Software & Information Engineering from Technische Universität Wien. Thomas K. began their education in 2000 at the Höhere Technische Bundeslehranstalt Mödling (College of Engineering), where they studied Electronics and Computer Engineering.
