Cate Malek

Cate Malek has a diverse background with experience in journalism, education, and development coordination. Cate worked as the Head of the Copy Desk at AJ+ since October 2019. Prior to that, they were a Journalism Instructor at Huston-Tillotson University from September 2018 to May 2019, where they taught news writing and media law, and also developed projects for students to report on their community. Cate also served as a Teaching Assistant at The University of Texas at Austin from September 2015 to May 2018. Cate was a Fellow at The GroundTruth Project from January 2017 to September 2017, and they worked as a Reporter and Editor at Voice of Witness from March 2011 to October 2015. Additionally, they held the position of Writing Instructor at AMIDEAST from January 2011 to October 2015, and they worked as a Development Coordinator at Abraham Path Initiative from June 2008 to June 2011.

Cate Malek holds a Master's degree from The University of Texas at Austin, which they obtained from 2015 to 2018. Cate'sfield of study during this period was focused on Middle Eastern Studies and Journalism. Prior to that, they pursued their undergraduate education at the University of Colorado Boulder from 1999 to 2003, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree. Cate'sprimary fields of study during their undergraduate years were American Studies and Journalism.
