Steve Datena is the founder and CEO of Lifecom, a company that specializes in medical IT systems focused on clinical decision-making. Lifecom's products are built around their patented Adaptive Knowledge Engine (AKE), which provides active clinical support systems for patients, families, care teams, and clinicians. Steve established Lifecom in 2001 and continues to lead the company.
In addition to their work at Lifecom, Steve has held various roles in the healthcare industry. From 2004 to 2011, they worked as a Trauma and Critical Care surgeon at both MultiCare Health System and Franciscan Health System. Steve also served as a Clinical Assist Professor of Surgery, specializing in Trauma and Critical Care Surgery, at OHSU from 2001 to 2005. Prior to these roles, Steve was the Associate Director of Trauma Services at Legacy Health from 1993 to 2000 and worked as a General Surgeon and Surgical Critical Care physician at Methodist Hospital of Indiana from 1989 to 1993.
Steve Datena completed their education in a chronological order. From 1976 to 1980, they attended Purdue University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Following this, from 1980 to 1984, they studied at Indiana University School of Medicine and obtained their MD degree. Finally, from 1984 to 1989, Steve completed their Surgical residency at Methodist Hospital of Indiana.
