David Newell, ACSW has extensive experience in the field of child welfare and social services. David currently serves as the President and CEO of Akin, where they lead and oversees the operations, programs, and services of the organization. Prior to this, they held the role of Commissioner at the Nebraska Children's Commission, where they were appointed by the governor and later elected as Vice Chair and Chair of the commission. David also served as the President and CEO of PromiseShip, where they were responsible for the leadership and administration oversight of programs and services.

David has held various leadership roles, including Regional Vice President and Vice President of Foster Care and Adoption Services at EMQ FamiliesFirst. David has also served on the board of directors for the Family Focused Treatment Association and Alaska Behavioral Health Association. Throughout their career, David has demonstrated a strong commitment to improving the lives of children and families, and has successfully implemented strategic initiatives and achieved budgetary goals.

David Newell, ACSW attended the University of Alaska Anchorage from 1996 to 1998, where they obtained a Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) degree with a specialization in Social Work. Prior to that, from 1987 to 1990, they completed their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in English, Political Science, and Education at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. In 1985 and 1986, they studied Communications at Chipola College and obtained an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree. David holds additional certifications, including Leadership Training for Managers from Dale Carnegie Training (2007) and a Foraker Certificate of Nonprofit Leadership from the University of Alaska Anchorage (2000).
