Despite pockets of excellence and many committed individuals, our state medical services (clinics and hospitals) are generally under-funded and under resourced. Staff work to their limit, with limited resources. Often, these constraints are tested by high patient loads. This often results in inadequate care – casualty patients waiting hours to be admitted, patients going without food or unable to be contacted, unnecessary deaths,.

At the same time, private healthcare, for the uninsured, is prohibitively expensive. Very often, large lump sums become payable, urgently, in the emergent situation. The elderly are most at risk, as are those with serious health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. But even younger members of our community are at risk.

We cannot, as a community, sit back and continue to let this happen to fellow Jews.
