Christopher Merten

Christopher Merten has extensive work experience in the maritime industry. Christopher started their career in 1994 as an Engineering Officer at Sabine Transportation Co., where they were responsible for watch standing and maintenance of vessel systems and machinery. In 1997, they worked as a Marine Surveyor at the American Bureau of Shipping, conducting surveys, inspections, and audits on various vessels and marine facilities in the Seattle, Puget Sound, and Alaska regions. In 2002, they founded Merten Marine Consulting, where they worked as a Safety and Engineering Consultant for a few months. Later that year, they joined Alaska Tanker Company as an Engineering Superintendent, managing day-to-day operations and leading major repair and maintenance projects. In 2014, they were promoted to Engineering Team Leader, overseeing the maintenance and operations of a fleet of crude oil carriers. Currently, Christopher serves as the Chief Operating Officer at Alaska Tanker Company, providing strategic vision, overseeing operations and engineering teams, and promoting the company's culture.

Christopher Merten holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Engineering Systems from the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Christopher completed this degree in 1994. In 2012, they attended the Stanford University Graduate School of Business for Executive Leadership Development, although it is not specified whether they obtained a degree from this program.
