James Marotta is currently a Senior Fellow at Alcon, having joined in January 2024, following a tenure as Head of the Intraocular Devices Portfolio at Alcon Laboratories, Inc. from October 2021 to January 2024, where recognition included the 2018 VIVA Leading Scientist Award. Previously, James served as a Senior Director and Project Head at Alcon from January 2012 to October 2021, and as Director at Medtronic Spine & Biologics from September 2003 to January 2012, specializing in Medical Affairs and research for innovative bone grafts. Early career experience includes serving as Senior R&D Engineer at Smith & Nephew, focusing on antimicrobial coatings for orthopedic implants, and as Assistant Professor of Biomaterials at Alfred University. James holds a PhD in Biomedical/Medical Engineering and a BASc in Materials Engineering, both from the University of Florida.
