Eric Brown has a diverse work experience spanning multiple companies and roles. Eric currently serves as the Associate Director of Protein Engineering at Alector, a position they have held since March 2022. In this role, they lead a team and utilizes in vitro display techniques to discover binding domains for multiple blood-brain barrier targets. Prior to this, Eric worked as a Staff Scientist at Alector from March 2019 to March 2022, where they managed efforts to enhance the penetration of antibodies through the blood-brain barrier and led a multidisciplinary team. Before joining Alector, Eric held positions at Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth and Merck. At Thayer School of Engineering, they were a PHD Candidate from September 2011 to August 2016. During this time, they developed assays to profile the Fc-mediated activity of antibodies elicited by HIV infection or vaccination. At Merck, Eric worked as a Research Associate in Biochemistry from October 2008 to September 2011, where they were responsible for protein purification and material generation for in-vivo and in-vitro studies. Eric also had a summer internship at Glaxo Smith Kline Pharmaceuticals in 2006, where they tested the feasibility of a pyridine substitution reaction. Overall, Eric has demonstrated expertise in protein engineering, assay development, and antibody discovery throughout their career.
Eric Brown attended Dartmouth College from 2011 to 2016, where they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Bioengineering. Prior to that, from 2004 to 2008, they completed their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Chemistry and Biology.
