Lukas Balles

Lukas Balles is a Senior AI Researcher at Aleph Alpha, with previous experience as an Applied Machine Learning Scientist at Amazon Web Services, focusing on continual learning and large language model optimization. Lukas embarked on research internships at Google, contributing to the Google Brain team and developing software engineering skills, as well as a research internship at Bosch, implementing deep learning solutions for medical image analysis. Early experience includes a risk management internship at Deutsche Bundesbank, where Lukas assessed default and liquidity risks using mathematical models. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Machine Learning from the International Max Planck Research School for Intelligent Systems, an MSc in Scientific Computing from Heidelberg University, and a BSc in Mathematics from Heidelberg University, complemented by a visiting student experience at Tsinghua University.
