Sofija Volertas

Dr. Volertas is an Assistant Professor and Associate Program Director in Allergy and Immunology at the University of North Carolina. She is triple board certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Allergy & Immunology. She is fascinated by innovation in health and passionate about people's stories; she has key interests in telehealth, wellness and medical education. Her core mission is around "sharing knowledge" - with patients, with medical trainees, and with the broader community. She is an accomplished speaker, giving numerous national talks, as well as a TEDx talk on the benefits of human connection that can be found in telemedicine.

She began her training at Georgetown School of Medicine, and completed residency in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at University of Chicago. She specialized in Allergy and Immunology at University of Michigan, where her work on quality of life for food allergy patients, and her involvement with Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) solidified her desire to improve the daily lives of those who live with food allergy. Dr. Volertas is an active member of multiple national allergy societies - the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology (AAAAI) and the American College of Allergy Asthma & Immunology (ACAAI).
