Alexandra Buchanan Architecture is an architecture and interior design practice specialising in residential work, with experience across multi-residential, public and hospitality projects in Australia and internationally. Our work is developed through close collaboration with clients and shaped by place and personal narrative rather than a fixed aesthetic.

We are recognised for work that is evocative and highly resolved, unfolding through light, materiality and movement. Spaces are designed to feel emotionally resonant, calm and functional rather than contrived or excessive. Careful attention to proportion, craft and detail ensures every element contributes to a cohesive whole — resolution achieved through restraint and considered decision-making.

Each project is conceived as a singular, site-specific response to its context and the lives it supports. We begin by understanding how people live, what they value and how they want to experience their spaces over time. Daily rituals, emotional connection and the particularities of place inform the work rather than formula or stylistic repetition — which is why our portfolio is diverse, each project specific to its site and brief.

Our process is transparent and collaborative. Much of the technical and strategic complexity is absorbed by the studio, but we guide clients through each stage — keeping them informed, confident and supported as they navigate complex decisions.

The buildings and interiors we design are built to last and to grow with the people who use them. From the outset, we focus on flexible layouts, durable materials and passive environmental strategies that support long-term efficiency and adaptability. We hold a strong sense of responsibility to our clients, their budgets, the builders we work with and the environments our projects call home.

Working from studios in Brisbane and Melbourne, our practice is shaped by a collaborative, people-first culture and a team with diverse backgrounds & experience
