Beth Torchia

Beth Torchia is an ABMG board-certified cytogeneticist with more than 25 years experience working as a cytogenetics laboratory director, 16 of which include primarily working with microarrays. She earned her PhD at the Medical College of Virginia and performed her post-doctoral work at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Beth Torchia is currently the Laboratory Technical Director and VP of Lab Operations at Allele Diagnostics. She is responsible for clinical test validation, clinical laboratory operations, and reporting of test results. In addition to functions within the clinical laboratory, Dr. Torchia also oversees the genetic counselors department and client care services.

Dr. Torchia was the Laboratory Technical Director at Signature Genomic Laboratories from 2006-2014. During her time at Signature Genomics, she acquired extensive experience in microarray technology, data review and reporting. As Technical Director she oversaw the validations of multiple assays and played a role in the design of software for microarray data review and reporting.

Prior to her position at Signature, Dr. Torchia was the Cytogenetics laboratory director at Northside Medical Center in Youngstown, OH from 1996-2006, and had additional responsibilities directing the Virology, Immunology, and Molecular Pathology sections of the laboratory.

Dr. Torchia earned her PhD at the Medical College of Virginia and performed her post-doctoral work and ABMG training fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She has certification in Clinical Cytogenetics from the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMG), holds a NY DOH Certificate of Qualification in Cytogenetics, is a Fellow of the American College of Medical Genomics (ACMG), and a member of the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG).

Dr. Torchia has co-authored more than 45 peer-reviewed publications, and has presented at national conferences, including the annual American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics meeting. She has been involved in teaching and training of undergraduates, medical students, graduate students, and ABMG fellows.
