Hot Tapping:  Defined as using an under pressure drilling machine to cut a hole in an operating pipeline, which allows for a new branch connection from the original pipe.

Backflow:  Arrangements through which backflow can occur are considered to be cross-connections.  The unwanted reverse flow of liquids in a piping system is created by two basic conditions backpressure or back-siphonage.
