Alluvial is named after the soil-enriching sediment carried by rivers. Like alluvium, we are a group of practitioners endeavoring to enhance the efforts of communities facing climate change. Significant impacts from climate change are inevitable and yet adaptation efforts can reduce the scale of their destruction. Building resilience in urban and rural communities as well as threatened ecosystems and natural resources is a critical undertaking. It also matters how we go about such a task.

Alluvial adheres to a set of Core Values (alluvialnetwork.com/core-values), integrating care and competence. We believe we are set apart by the network we’re creating, which extends far beyond our own skill sets but follows suit when it comes to leading with compassion.

We at Alluvial believe in the self-determination and authority of the organizations we partner with, and we deliberately play a supportive role, offering supplemental capacity and decades of environmental expertise to help communities prepare for worsening climate conditions. We build relationships of mutual respect and exchange, and we lead with meticulous care for the singularities of each community. In light of the historical iniquities and ongoing disinvestment that have marginalized communities of color, Native communities, and low-income communities, causing disproportionately severe climate effects in the areas where they live, we will prioritize working on projects that bring about environmental justice for such under-resourced groups.
