We envision a future in which every community — especially those long overlooked, disinvested in, and misrepresented in mainstream media — has access to courageous, culturally grounded, community-centered journalism that strengthens democracy from the ground up. In this reality, local reporters are well-trained, resourced and able to thrive without having to leave their communities behind. Their work reflects the languages, identities and lived experiences of their audiences, expanding social cohesion, civic participation and driving solutions emerging from the community itself.
