Our Objective

ALTERFOCUS is a digital platform created with the goal of connecting the Latin American community living in Berlin through art and culture.

Etymology

The name was developed from our intention to find a concept that unites all Latin Americans living in Berlin – connecting us through an unavoidable common ground. Alterfocus combines two Latin words: Alter (adj., masc. "other") and Focus (noun, masc. "fire/hearth").

Our Philosophy

Alterfocus stems from our firm belief that the artistic process is enhanced when it is not viewed as an individual and solitary act, but rather as the convergence of knowledge and talents throughout a collaborative chain that extends far beyond an isolated artistic piece.

This perspective leads to a more realistic and holistic vision that includes not only the artist, but also producers, cultural managers, journalists, technicians, web developers, translators, copywriters, community managers, set designers, lighting designers, and an unimaginable etc.

That's why this platform brings together not only artists, but the entire Latin community who wish to participate and engage in artistic and cultural projects through their professions.

As immigrants ourselves, far from our homes for various reasons, we believe that cooperation and mutual support within our community not only enhances our artistic work but also facilitates our integration as residents of a city that can sometimes feel somewhat hostile.

Here we offer an inclusive and supportive space for the Latin American community who, for diverse reasons, have chosen Berlin as our "other home" – where everyone is welcome regardless of gender, age, background, nationality, ethnicity, religion, disability, or sexual orientation.
