Guy Coates is an experienced software engineer and IT manager with a strong background in bioinformatics and computational systems. Currently serving as a Staff Software Engineer at Altos Labs since February 2025, Guy previously spent a decade at Schlumberger as an IT Manager, overseeing high-performance computing and research IT services at the Gould Research Centre. Prior to this, Guy led the Informatics System Group at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, managing a team focused on providing scientific application expertise and maintaining large-scale Linux/Unix clusters. Guy's career also includes roles as a Senior Systems Administrator at the Laboratory of Molecular Biophysics at the University of Oxford and as a System Administrator.
