Amy Whalen

Amy Whalen is a Machine Learning Scientist at Amazon. They previously held positions as a Senior Applied Scientist at Amazon and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, where they developed tools for analyzing terabyte-scale genomic datasets and published multiple software packages and papers. Earlier, they worked as a Graduate Student at the University of St Andrews, focusing on machine learning and Bayesian statistics to model cognition, and as a Research Assistant at the University of California, Berkeley, where they constructed models of language transmission. Additionally, they have experience in teaching Basic Life Support and founding a student-run emergency medical services organization at UC Berkeley. Amy holds a PhD in Biology and Statistics from the University of St Andrews and a BA in Mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley.
