Derek Alexander

Derek Alexander is an experienced professional in the field of machine learning and data science, currently serving as an Applied Scientist in Healthcare AI at Amazon since January 2025. Prior to this role, Derek held positions at Clairity, Inc. as both Principal Machine Learning Engineer and Senior Software Engineer from January 2022 to August 2024. At The University of Texas at Austin, Derek worked as a Graduate Student Data Scientist specializing in natural language processing, machine learning, and cloud computing from August 2016 to December 2021. Additionally, Derek was a visiting fellow and ML Research Scientist at The Johns Hopkins University for a portion of 2019, and before that, served as a Project Manager and Research Software Engineer at the University of Arizona from July 2014 to July 2016. Derek holds a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience and Applied Statistical Modeling from The University of Texas at Austin and a BA in Philosophy with a minor in Mathematics from the University of Virginia.
