Hongda Mao

Hongda Mao serves as an Applied Science Lead at Amazon since June 2019, where responsibilities include driving innovation in computer vision and multimodal technologies to enhance safety and productivity for driver associates, as well as leading the deployment of CV/VLM models on smart-glasses and edge devices. Previously, Hongda held the role of Applied Science Manager at Amazon, overseeing a team of over 10 applied scientists and engineers, contributing to the development of health and wellness products, and launching on-device Alexa speaker recognition. Prior experience includes serving as Staff AI Scientist & Tech Lead at JD.COM, where Hongda led machine learning initiatives for autonomous driving and unmanned supermarkets, and held the position of Sr. Machine Learning Scientist at AliveCor, focusing on mobile health algorithms with FDA clearance. Hongda began a career as a Research Scientist at Carestream, specializing in X-ray image analysis. Academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Computing and Information Sciences from the Rochester Institute of Technology and BS/MS degrees in Information Engineering from Zhejiang University.
