Michael Punke

VP, Global AWS Public Policy at Amazon

Michael Punke is the Vice President of Global AWS Public Policy at Amazon. Michael was previously the US Ambassador to the World Trade Organization and the Deputy US Trade Representative. Prior to that, they worked as a writer, consultant, and adjunct professor at the University of Montana. Michael is the author of the novel, The Revenant, which was adapted into an award-winning film, as well as two works of narrative nonfiction and several screenplays.

Punke began their career in public service as a Senior Policy Advisor at the Office of the United States Trade Representative from 1995 to 1996. Michael then served as the Director for International Economic Affairs at The White House from 1993 to 1995. In 2000, they became a Partner at Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw, and they served in that role until 2003. Michael then founded Michael Punke Consulting, where they served as Principal until 2010.

Ambassador Punke has a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.A. in Theirtory from the University of Montana.

Michael Punke received their JD from Cornell Law School and their Bachelor's Degree in International Affairs from The George Washington University.

Their manager is Jay Carney, SVP, Worldwide Corporate Affairs. They work with Drew Herdener - VP, Worldwide Communications, Christina Lee - VP, Consumer PR, and Paul Misener - VP, Global Innovation Policy.
