Mike McCandless is a highly experienced software developer and expert in search technologies, currently serving as Senior Principal Product Search Developer at Amazon since April 2014. With a longstanding involvement in the Apache Software Foundation and Apache Lucene, Mike has held roles as a Committer and Project Management Committee (PMC) member since 2006. Previous experience includes working as a Lucene Hacker at Elastic from 2014 to 2017 and as a Senior Software Engineer at IBM from 2007 to 2014. Mike founded iPhrase Technologies in 1998, serving as Chief Architect until its acquisition by IBM in 2005. Mike earned a PhD in Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology between 1994 and 1998.
