Rui Hou

Rui Hou is a Senior Applied Scientist at Amazon since August 2020, specializing in the development of computer vision models for edge devices. Prior to this role, Rui served as a Machine Learning Software Engineer at Niantic, Inc. from February 2018 to August 2020, leading a semantic segmentation project and developing models for various applications. Rui also has experience as a Research Assistant at the University of Central Florida from August 2012 to August 2019, focusing on action recognition, video analysis, and event detection. Additionally, Rui completed two internships at Google, working as a Software Engineer where responsibilities included designing a pipeline for recognizing poles in LiDAR data and implementing factor analysis techniques for big data. Rui earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science from the University of Central Florida in January 2017 and a Master of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Arizona State University in January 2012.
