Sahand Parniani

Sahand Parniani, PhD, currently serves as an Applied Scientist at Amazon, beginning this role in September 2024. Prior to this position, Sahand worked at AltaML from January 2022 to September 2024, where responsibilities included the development of a Google-like search service and a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) chatbot, both of which were deployed into production. Previous roles at AltaML also involved creating a data extraction pipeline using LLMs and developing text classification and entity recognition models. Sahand's academic background includes a PhD in Computer Software Engineering from the University of Alberta, complemented by a Master of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and a Bachelor's degree in the same field from the University of Tehran. During the PhD program, research focused on extracting semantic information from plain text, resulting in the generation of semantic triplets.
