John Lundgren is currently a Special Advisor to Stanley Black & Decker (NYSE: SWK), an $11 billion diversified global leading provider of tools and storage, commercial electronic security and engineered fastening systems. He retired as Chairman and CEO on December 31, 2016 after a 12+-year tenure during which revenues grew more than 5x, market capitalization increased more than 7x, with total shareholder return exceeding 400%, significantly outpacing the S&P 500.
Prior to joining Stanley Black & Decker, Mr. Lundgren spent 25 years at Georgia Pacific (NYSE:GP), including predecessor companies American Can Dixie-Northern Consumer Products, James River and Fort James. At Georgia Pacific, he held roles of increasing responsibility across business development, strategic planning, corporate development, marketing, and product management, leading to regional and business unit President roles. Mr. Lundgren spent 14 of his 25 years with Georgia Pacific abroad, primarily in Europe, including running its International Consumer Products business where he built a market leading pan-European business from a disparate group of regional operating entities. He began his career in product management at Gillette Co.
In addition to serving on the Boards of Stanley Black & Decker, Callaway, and Staples, Mr. Lundgren also served on the Business Roundtable, and as the Vice Chairman and member of the Executive Committee of NAM (National Association of Manufacturers) and is active on the President’s Advisory Council of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Dartmouth Athletics Advisory Board, G100, Prium, and the Business Council. He is a Trustee of the Connecticut Science Center, Chairman of the New England Chapter of CEO’s Against Cancer and a National Trustee of The First Tee, an organization dedicated to the development of life-enhancing values for young people through character education and golf.
Mr. Lundgren is a cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College and holds an MBA degree from Stanford University. He is married to Tamara Lundgren, CEO of Schnitzer Steel Industries, which made them the only married CEOs in the Fortune 1000.
