April O'Connell

April O'Connell, PhD, DABT, currently serves as Associate Director of Translational Safety and Bioanalytical Science at Amgen, a position held since October 2023. Prior to this role, April was Associate Director and Interim Toxicology Leader at Horizon from September 2021 to October 2023 and worked as a toxicologist in Nonclinical Safety and Pathobiology at Gilead Sciences from April 2015 to September 2021, where responsibilities included supporting project teams in safety assessment and managing toxicity studies. Earlier experience includes a postdoctoral position at the US Environmental Protection Agency from January 2014 to April 2015 and a doctoral research role on liver disease at the University of Arizona from July 2008 to July 2013. April earned a PhD in Pharmacology & Toxicology from the University of Arizona in 2013 and a B.S. in Molecular & Cellular Biology from the same institution in 2007.
