Derek Burns is an accomplished engineering professional with extensive experience in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Currently serving as Associate Director Engineering at Amgen since October 2023, Derek previously held the same title at Horizon from May 2022 to October 2023. At Merck Life Science, Derek worked as Site Maintenance Manager, overseeing the Maintenance and Reliability group in Cork from October 2020 to May 2022. Earlier roles at Merck Group included Site Automation and Electrical Manager and Site Electrical Engineer, contributing to initiatives in automation and maintenance across various manufacturing units. Derek began a career in engineering at Kentz as a Project Engineer in Telecommunications and later advanced to a Senior Electrical, Instrument and Controls Project Engineer at DPS Engineering. Educationally, Derek holds a Diplôme d’Ingénieur in Electrical Engineering and Industrial Computing from ESIGELEC, along with a European MEng (Hons) and a European BEng (Hons) in Electronic Systems from Dublin City University.
