Nick Weires is a Process Development Principal Scientist at Amgen, where they focus on chemical synthesis to enable the delivery of small molecule entities to the clinic. Nick is a synthetic organic chemist with experience in total synthesis and catalytic methodology development, having contributed to significant research during their PhD at UCLA, where they developed methods for the total synthesis of various alkaloids and C–C bond forming reactions. Following their time as an NIH postdoctoral fellow at UC Irvine, where they advanced nickel-photoredox dual-catalytic methodologies, Nick worked as a medicinal chemist at Amgen, contributing to drug discovery across oncology and inflammation therapeutic areas. Nick obtained a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Idaho before earning their PhD from UCLA.
