Steve Mitchell

Steve Mitchell is an accomplished engineering professional with extensive experience in both academia and industry. Currently serving as the Manager of Ampcontrol Marine since January 2015, Steve leads a team focused on designing hybrid and battery-electric power and propulsion systems for the maritime sector. Prior to this role, Steve held various positions at the University of Newcastle from 2000 to 2024, including Conjoint Senior Lecturer, Research Academic, and Lecturer in Electrical Engineering, where significant contributions were made to research and education in power and mining industries. Steve's early career includes design engineering at Bramco Electronics and an industrial traineeship at A. Goninan & Co Pty Ltd, complementing advanced academic credentials with a PhD in Electrical Engineering and a Bachelor of Engineering, both from the University of Newcastle.
