Michael Franklin

Michael J. Franklin is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Chicago, where they have held various roles, including Faculty Co-Director of the Data Science Institute and Chair of the Computer Science Department. With over 35 years of experience in database and data management fields, they have contributed as an entrepreneur, researcher, and consultant, notably at institutions like MIT and UC Berkeley. Franklin has been involved in significant advancements in data science and distributed computing, including as a founding advisor for Databricks and as the original creator of Apache Spark. Currently, they serve as the Morton D. Hull Distinguished Service Professor of Computer Science at the University of Chicago and engage as an advisor to several tech companies.
